Why I Paint Nudes

Quite simply, I’m drawn to soft forms, the silky folds of drapery, and the drama of light moving across the human figure. The nude has an honesty and simplicity that allows light to take centre stage. It becomes a study of curves, shadows, and the subtle transitions that only the human body can offer.

For me, these works are less about depicting a person and more about exploring form itself, how light wraps around the body, how fabric both conceals and reveals, how stillness can feel alive. The gentle tension between skin and cloth, the interplay of highlights and deep shadows, and the quiet mood of a single figure in space all contribute to the atmosphere I try to create.

Painting nudes is a way to return to the classic language of art: timeless, intimate, and deeply connected to the Old Master tradition. It is here, in the softness of form and the precision of light, that technique and emotion meet.
