Salt Plains
The Salt Plains series became possible when I found a new way to act as both director and painter, staging scenes repeatedly until the composition, light, and atmosphere felt exactly right. I could experiment endlessly, refining poses, adjusting environments, playing with fashion, props, and scale, much like directing a full production.
Before this, creating such imagery would have required enormous resources, models, stylists, makeup artists, vehicles, aircraft, elaborate locations. The cost and logistics would have been far beyond reach. Now, I could design the scenes as I imagined them, develop them further in Photoshop, and ultimately bring them back into the world of painting.
What emerges in the Salt Plains series is the fusion of direction and craftsmanship: expansive cinematic spaces, strong silhouettes, dramatic light, and a sense of narrative mystery. These are paintings born from a place where imagination and technique meet, free from the limitations of traditional staging and production.
