Figurative Paintings

My group figure paintings are a deliberate nod to the Old Masters, an opportunity to explore the power of composition, dramatic lighting, and the storytelling potential of multiple figures within a single scene. These works allow me to move beyond the quiet intimacy of still life or the immediacy of alla prima studies and step into something larger, more theatrical, and more narratively rich.

Working on a bigger scale opens space for tension, gesture, and interaction. The figures become characters; their arrangement, a choreography of light and shadow. Here, I can play with atmosphere and symbolism, using chiaroscuro and classical staging to guide the viewer’s eye and build a sense of drama.

These paintings are, at their core, about storytelling, moments suspended in time, shaped by light, emotion, and the timeless language of classical composition.
